Marty and Dalena Reed are the owners of Prairie Skies Farm located in Shawnee, OK the heart of central Oklahoma. They both grew up in the area and have called central Oklahoma home for many years. Marty spent time in the US Army serving in several locations around the world. Dalena worked on her collegiate education, earning an MS in Systems Engineering. They have a daughter, Lily, who spends her days playing and exploring.
Prior to being in the military, Marty spent time learning about and training hunting dogs to track and identify small game, as well as retrieving.
While in school, Dalena studied and trained a variety of breeds in obedience and tricks, as well as correcting behavioral issues. By understanding a breeds natural strengths, she’s able to tailor her training plans to best suit the breed she’s working with.
It was never part of their dream to own a farm and raise sheep and Australian Shepherds. However, they felt called to find a way to help those in need.
Our Purpose
Marty and Dalena bought a small farm and established Prairie Skies Farm as a way to fulfill their calling. They initially bought the farm to start a large vegetable garden and raise their own food. After much trial and error with different animals, they settled on raising Katahdin sheep registered with Katahdin Hair Sheep International (KHSI) and American Kennel Club/Australian Shepherd Club of America (AKC/ASCA) registered Australian Shepherds. Out of the abundance in the garden, the sheep, and the Aussies, they're able to help support local non-profits with feeding those in need.
